Lakeside & Somers, Montana

Lifestyle & Community

Lakeside and Somers sit on the western shore of Flathead Lake, connected by Highway 93 and a shared identity rooted in lake life. These are small, unincorporated communities. No stoplights, no downtown bustle. What they offer instead is quiet proximity to the water and a pace that lets the landscape do the talking.

Somers sits at the north end of the lake where the Flathead River meets the bay. Its small commercial area includes a handful of restaurants, a brewery, and the historic Somers School building. Lakeside, a few miles south, stretches along the lakeshore with a marina, lodges, and seasonal shops. Together they form a corridor that feels removed from the valley's busier towns while still sitting minutes from Kalispell and Bigfork.

Families here attend schools in the Somers-Lakeside district. The community is tight. People know each other through the marina, the volunteer fire department, and the seasonal rhythm of lake living.

Recreation & The Outdoors

The lake is the center of everything. Boating, sailing, fishing, paddleboarding, and swimming fill the summer months. Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi, and living on its western shore means the water is part of your daily view and your daily life.

Blacktail Mountain Ski Area is just up the road from Lakeside. It is a smaller, locally owned resort with affordable lift tickets, uncrowded runs, and panoramic views of the lake from the summit. For families and intermediate skiers, it is one of the best-kept secrets in Montana.

The Foys to Blacktail trail system connects Lakeside to Kalispell with miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trail. Hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling access is immediate from the surrounding national forest land.

Local Character

Somers and Lakeside are for people who want the lake without the crowd. The dining options are limited but good. Tamarack Brewing in Lakeside is a local anchor. The Somers Bay Cafe and Tiebreakers in Somers serve loyal regulars. In the summer, the marina and waterfront restaurants fill with boaters and families.

This stretch of the valley rewards simplicity. Sunsets over the water. Mornings with coffee on the dock. Neighbors waving from the road. If you are looking for nightlife or shopping, you drive to Kalispell. If you are looking for peace and the lake, you are already home.

Real Estate in Lakeside & Somers

Properties along this corridor range from lakefront homes and cabins to hillside lots with sweeping views of Flathead Lake and the surrounding mountains. Waterfront property commands a premium, but homes set back from the lake or along the highway corridor offer more accessible entry points.

Somers Bay is particularly desirable for its protected waters and proximity to the river outlet. Lakeside properties along Angel Point and south toward Yellow Bay attract seasonal and full-time residents alike. Rural acreage is available on the benches above the lake with views that stretch across the valley.

This is a market where lake access, view orientation, and dock permits carry significant value. Local expertise matters when evaluating waterfront properties and understanding what the shoreline regulations allow.
